There are several ways to set up discounts within the Platform. This article explains how to:
- Set up discounts for attributes such as memberships
- Set discounts on events
- Configure automated discounts
Platform Discount Codes
This feature is available for all organisations that have input their chart of accounts and class codes into the Platform. You can read more about these 2 sections here:
Once these are set up, you can begin work on setting up your discount codes.
Access to this section is available to anyone with access to the 'Finance Admin' area. Under this option is the 'Discount Codes' and 'Discount Code Tags' admin options:
Discount Codes
A discount code can be created by clicking on the 'Add' button and completing the form.
- Code - Minimum of 6 alphanumeric characters that need to be entered at checkout to apply the discount.
- Name - Internal name for reference.
- Tag - Optional field, see Discount Code Tags below.
- Allowed number - Total number of times the code can be used.
- Dates - The period in which the code is 'active' and can be used.
Building the discount can be a little more complex. As these are built using the 'Account' codes, you'll need to select the codes to be discounted. You can add multiple 'account codes' to each discount code but if selecting multiple options the type of discount (fixed/ percentage) cannot be combined.
Put simply, each discount code must either be a 'Fixed Amount' OR a 'Percentage Amount' and cannot be a combination of the two.
Remember to click 'Save' upon completion.
Discount codes can be amended once created and deleted as long as they have not previously been used.
There is now also a 'Clone' feature that enables admins to duplicate an existing code (users will need to complete the 'Code' field for the newly cloned item but all other settings will be duplicated).
Discount Code Tags
These tags are optional but they are a good way to track the codes. This information will be available in the financial reports to help you understand what codes have been used.
For example, if you wanted to create multiple discount codes relating to 'Membership' you could create individual codes (specific to the needs of those codes - free membership, 50% off membership, 10% off in January etc) and then tag each with a simple 'Membership' tag so you can see all discounts that have been created and used for membership purchases).
You won't be able to remove tags once they have been used.
Event Discount Codes
This article gives more information on how to create discount codes for events: How do I use the ‘Discount Code’ feature for events?
Automated Discounts
Automated discounts are a great way to offer default discounts based on attributes that are already held against a persons profile. For example, if you wanted to offer a discounted membership to coaches, you could configure it so they get £10/ $10/ €10 off a membership if they have a valid 'Level 1' certificate.
These automated discounts can only be configured by the Sport:80 team so if you would like to find out more, email support@sport80.zendesk.com.
